More than 75 800 unemployed aged over 50 started work in 2016. Compared with the previous year 2015 the number increased by nearly 3400. This is evident from the data in the Report on the National Concept for encouraging the active life of e3lderly people in Bulgaria (2012-2030) in the sector policies for the period 2015-2016.
Statistics shows that the unemployed people over 50 are decreasing. In 2016 they were 115 822, or nearly by 15 000 less than in 2015. Almost half of those unemployed are people without qualification and with basic or lower education. At the same time employment in this age group is increasing. In 2016 the coefficient reached 54.5%, which is more by 1.5 percentage points compared with 2015.
The report states that the implementation of the National Strategy for long-term care has created conditions for dignified and independent life of the elderly people and people with disabilities in a family environment through transformation of the institutional care into good quality, affordable community-based services. In 2016 a total of 490 community-based services for adults were available in the form of state-delegated activities with the total capacity for 9309 individuals. Compared with the year 2012, the number of these social services increased by 109, and the availability by more than 1142 individuals.
