208,000 unemployed start work during first ten months of 2017

208,000 unemployed started work in the first ten months of 2017. 88% of them were employed in non-subsidized jobs. This was said by Minister of Labour and Social Policy, Biser Petkov, at the opening ceremony of the Employer of the Year Award of the Employment Agency. The forum was held on 12 December in Sofia.

Minister Petkov pointed out that the average monthly unemployment rate for January - October 2017 was 7.3% and stressed that such a figure was last reported for the same period in 2009.The positive trend of decreasing unemployment continues in the third quarter of 2017, when its level according to NSI data drops to 5.8%. This has been the lowest rate since 2008, Minister Petkov said. He pointed out that, despite the general favourable situation on the labour market, regional disparities in employment and unemployment remained, which requires a targeted employment policy.

During the Employer of the Year Forum, Minister Petkov awarded the companies with the greatest contribution to the development of the national labour market in 2017. In this category, he handed out prizes to enterprises Yazaki Bulgaria, Billa Bulgaria and Pilko. In the category "Employers with a significant contribution to the employment of unemployed people on the regional labour market" 9 companies were awarded. Their awards were presented by Deputy Ministers of Labour and Social Policy Lazar Lazarov, Zornitsa Rusinova, Rositsa Dimitrova and Sultanka Petrova.
